I captured Daily Dessert with my dear friend and longtime collaborator, pastry chef Caroline Schiff. The book is divided into 8 chapters for all the different occasions where we eat dessert, Caroline entrusted me to design a different lighting scenarios to illustrate each chapter: "sunny day sweets," "cozy day confections," "celebration sweets," etc... I loved the challenge of developing the different lighting scenarios and it offered me the opportunity to showcase my diverse and varied approach to lighting.
It was an ambitious project aiming to capture 100+ recipes in 8 studio shoot days and then we shot one day of portraits/lifestyle imagery in and around Caroline's apartment. We managed to operate efficiently in studio and successfully captured all of the recipe shots because we put in the effort in pre-production and were well prepared with an established shot list and creative direction for every recipe each shoot day. The shoot days focused on executing established creative ideas, with a few exceptions, we were not using time on set to develop new ideas.
We had an incredible crew, Steph De Luca was our props/sets stylist and she did a wonderful job translating Caroline's aesthetic into props and sets. We had three food stylists in the kitchen, Kayla Wong, Ben Weiner, and Shannon Dowling, every dish looked great when it arrived on set. And Jessica Meter produced the shoot, developing the shot list and keeping the entire team on schedule.
